Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Responsibilities You will perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and location of fixed fire protection systems. You will assist in the development of special protective services for structures imposing extreme hazards. You will perform effective pre-fire planning by identifying any new or existing hazards that may require modification of the prevention/protection program or type of response to a fire. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-04 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial volunteer, governmental fire department brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Operating fire communications equipment. GS-03 Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience. General experience must demonstrate the following: 1) ability to follow directions 2:) To read, understand, and retain instructions, regulations, and procedures. 3) Ability to perform the duties of the position. GS-04/ GS-03 The position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain the Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification within 12 months of employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education In lieu of specialized experience you may qualify at the GS-04 level with the following education substitute: Successful completion of a 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related course work or have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent. In lieu of specialized experience you may qualify at the GS-03 level with the following education substitute: Successful completion of a 1-year related education or training or have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent. Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. This announcement uses the certain personnel of the DoD/Modified direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competetive service. Several vacancies may be filled.
