Job Description

Position Summary The Chief Learning and Publications Officer (CLPO) is responsible for driving the strategic vision, execution, and growth of ASGE’s educational programming, scientific publications, and professional development initiatives. This leadership role oversees a diverse portfolio of in-person, virtual (synchronous and asynchronous), hybrid, accredited, and non-accredited education and training programs, ensuring alignment with ASGE’s mission while enhancing member engagement and non-dues revenue. Key areas of oversight include education at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) annual meeting, the bio-skills and simulation training center, the GI LEAP Learning Management System and related educational technologies, scientific publications, guidelines and society documents, Fellow’s programming, industry training, scientific and educational research, as well as other ASGE events and funded initiatives. The officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with ACCME standards, managing budgets, marketing, development, and logistics, and continuously seeking opportunities for educational innovation and expansion. This role is pivotal in shaping ASGE’s future by developing and implementing high-quality education and training programs, leveraging educational technologies to enhance learning experiences, integrating publication content across the organization, fostering cross-departmental collaboration, and identifying new revenue streams to sustain and expand ASGE’s impact in gastroenterology. Executive Leadership & Strategic Growth As a member of the Executive Team, shape ASGE’s long-term educational, publications and events strategy, financial planning, and growth priorities. Guide the bio-skills and simulation center, fostering innovation in hands-on training, use of simulation techniques, and hands-on endoscopic education. Oversee the development and integration of publication, and dissemination of ASGE’s scientific journals, guidelines, and society documents, ensuring they serve as key resources for the GI community. Educational Program Oversight & Compliance Oversee all operations of live and online educational activities and the annual meeting, including budgeting, staffing, faculty coordination, volunteer committees, and planning timelines. Ensure ASGE’s education and related activities comply with ACCME and ABIM MOC standards, developing and interpreting policies and best practices for continuous improvement. Supervise ASGE’s instructional design team, leveraging their expertise in project management, technology, and adult learning principles to create innovative learning solutions for ASGE members. Revenue Growth, Business Development & Market Analysis Lead innovation and growth in non-dues revenue, with oversight of industry training programs, certificate and training programs, and new educational products and services. Analyze trends in associations, medical education, and professional development, using needs assessments, evaluation data, and financial insights to drive strategic decision-making. Develop and implement new business models, industry partnerships, and revenue-generating opportunities to ensure ASGE’s long-term financial sustainability. Oversee coordination of budgets, marketing, conference services, membership engagement, corporate sales, and accounting processes to align with organizational goals. Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Volunteer Engagement Work with ASGE staff and committee chairs to oversee and coordinate the efforts of multiple volunteer committees, including those focused on education, training, CME, MOC, and research. Facilitate collaboration between education, advocacy, research, and publication teams to maximize the impact of ASGE’s educational offerings. Engage with faculty, industry partners, and key stakeholders to develop forward-thinking educational initiatives that meet the evolving needs of GI professionals. Education/Experience/Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree in business, education, healthcare administration, or a related field required; master’s degree in business or education preferred. At least 8 years of experience in educational program development, with a minimum of 5 years of recent experience in ACCME-accredited continuing medical education (CME). Strong background in association leadership, medical education, instructional design, and scientific publishing. Experience in overseeing live, virtual, and hybrid educational programming, including large-scale conferences and hands-on training programs. Demonstrated success in developing non-dues revenue streams, including industry-sponsored training programs, grant-funded education, and certificate programs. Required Certifications/Memberships: None required. Certified Association Executive (CAE) and/or Certified Healthcare Education professional (CHEP) is desirable. Skilled in developing new policies, writing grant proposals, and creating innovative education models. Experience in promoting educational offerings and engaging members through effective communication strategies. Ability to engage with physicians, staff, industry leaders, and governing bodies at all levels. Experience working with volunteer committees, faculty, and external partners to develop high-quality programming.
