Position Overview:
As a Staff Accountant, you will play a key role in managing client financial data by researching and analyzing general ledger accounts and preparing financial statements each period. You will collaborate closely with clients and various teams to gather information, ensure data accuracy, and maintain client satisfaction. This role reports directly to the Director of Accounting and doesn't involve direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare accurate financial statements by gathering and analyzing data from clients, accounting software, and other departments.
Record client inventories and transactions, ensuring proper documentation.
Troubleshoot software issues related to accounting platforms and assist clients with questions on mapping and coding.
Review, code, and import banking transactions into accounting systems.
Maintain cash flow tools and record transactions such as deposits, petty cash, and paid-outs.
Prepare general ledger entries, reconcile accounts, and ensure accurate recording of assets, liabilities, expenses, and sales.
Perform period-end accruals, amortize prepaid expenses, and manage journal entries as necessary.
Audit and file tax forms, including business tax licenses and payroll taxes, ensuring timely submissions.
Perform balance sheet reconciliations for all assigned clients each quarter.
Communicate with agencies (e.g., BOE) to resolve any outstanding issues.
Assist clients with financial questions and provide clear, actionable responses regarding their financial data.
Contribute to special projects as assigned by the Director of Accounting or Operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong ability to collaborate with clients and team members in a remote work environment.
Highly detail-oriented with excellent project management, organization, and efficiency skills.
Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Comfort with accounting software, databases, and reporting tools.
Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing applications.
Required Experience & Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of one year of experience as a General Ledger Accountant.
Restaurant industry experience is essential (Front of House, Back of House, or Management experience).
Candidates with 5+ years of accounting experience (even without a degree) will be considered.
Comfort with cloud-based systems, as most work is done through online software.
Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends, with overtime as needed.
