Definition Under general supervision from the Librarian, in the Community Recreational Services Department, assists in the overall operation of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Library. Plans, organizes, implements, monitors and improves Library programs and services.
This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt. Essential Functions: Primary functions may include the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, skills, and other characteristics. Examples of Tasks 1. Library Operation & Services:
- Greets patrons, makes them feel welcome, directs them to appropriate area of the library and answers their questions.
- Manages the assigned areas and collections in the library.
- Assumes Librarian's responsibilities when he/she is absent, including supervision of staff as assigned.
- Shelves books in the proper shelf locations in the library.
- Keeps library neat and clean. Cleans and dusts shelves, tables, books and equipment.
- Analyzes data, draw logical conclusions, and make sound decisions.
- Assists with special events as needed, which may include but not limited to, sets up tables, chairs, audio and video devices.
- Maintains accurate records and prepares appropriate reports
- Assists in Maintains daily records of people in the library such as, but not limited to, the number of patrons using computers or the number of reference calls per day.
- Catalogues and processes materials under supervision of the librarian. Checks books in and out, following established procedures.
- Assists patrons in using the library's computers.
2. Library Programs:
- Recommends and implements programs that meets the needs of the Community and Recreation priorities and goals.
- Plans and coordinates educational programs for patrons of all ages.
- Plans educational programs related to and maintains inventory on books.
- Provides marketing support to promote Division programs.
- Organizes and assists with enrollment and registration in various programs
- Constantly strives to develop new, innovative and creative programs of interest to the community members.
- Present, active and on-site for programs, promoting positive engagement during the activities
3. Miscellaneous: Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental and program operations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics: - Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions, history and government of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge of standardized Library management practices and procedures
- Knowledge of basic customer service principles.
- Knowledge of methods and practices of book publishing and distribution.
- Skills in time management.
- Skills establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with SRPMIC staff, Community members and the Public.
- Skills in communicating effectively with the public.
- Skills in operating a variety of standard office equipment including, photocopiers, FAX machines, personal computer and familiarity with Microsoft office suite.
- Ability to develop a customer service oriented atmosphere.
- Ability to stand on feet to extensive periods of time.
- Ability to carry heavy items weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Education & Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. Library or related experience preferred
- For enrolled Community Members without a GED, must obtain a GED within the probationary period. Requires participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state certified exam in order to continue employment with SRPMIC.
Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.
Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
Special Requirements - Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of this position, successful completion of an extensive background investigation is required.
- May be required to working evenings and weekends with some occasional travel.
