Job Description

Today, Erie House is a modern social services nonprofit with programming and resources for children and youth, mental health and community wellness, adult education and training, legal services, and more. The basic function of this position is to support a team of professional providers serving immigrants in the Little Village area of Chicago. Proyecto Cuídate provides individual, group, and family services to support, inform, and educate the community on topics that strengthen the individual and family unit. It includes:
  • Informative workshops and trainings in areas such as violence prevention, health & wellness, parenting skills, etc., 
  • Supportive counseling and case management.
  • School-based and after-school youth programming.


The Full-Time Family Advocate will be a position in partnership with the Proyecto Cuidate department directly impacting the Chicagoland community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Working with a caseload of Illinois Department of Children & Family Services families referred for parent coaching and services.
  • Support and facilitate parenting classes, support groups, and other program workshops at Erie’s sites, partner organizations, or schools as needed.
  • Conduct psycho-social intake assessments, screenings, and case management, and provide referrals to other supportive agencies as appropriate.
  • Conduct home visits.
  • Collects data, tracks participants’ attendance, and completes data entry in a timely manner.
  • Creates and maintains client files in accordance with program documentation requirements.
  • Maintains and responds to workshop and referral inquiries.
  • Supports with workshop preparation and set up.
  • Supports with community outreach and other recruitment activities through the development and maintenance of partnerships and collaborations in the community.
  • Represents Erie Neighborhood House to the public and actively participates in community meetings and events as required.
  • Attends monthly department, all staff, funder, and other required meetings.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Child Development, or related field preferred or currently in school obtaining such degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of two years experience working in direct service to the community, particularly immigrant families.
  • English/Spanish fluency.
  • Familiarity with domestic violence, child abuse, emotional and mental health.
  • Commitment to social justice and sensitivity to the assets and challenges of a diverse group of participants.
  • Exhibit a sincere interest in working with youth, adults, and families.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills.
  • Be self-motivated, self-directed, creative, reliable, and dependable.
  • Completion of a fingerprint background check.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, and travel to off-site locations.
  • 2 years of experience working in direct service.
