Position Title Director, Advancement Services & Prospect Research

Position Summary The Director, Advancement Services & Prospect Research is responsible for the process of obtaining, storing, managing, and facilitating access to the data and information resources essential to members of the University Advancement team including systems administration, alumni records, and gift accounting and processing. The position is also responsible for overseeing prospect research to identify new individuals, corporations, and foundations that are able to provide significant financial support of the University.
Education/Experience Bachelor's degree plus seven years of progressive responsibility in a fundraising environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires direct experience and/or a thorough understanding of each of the following areas: fundraising database administration; gift processing; prospect research and management; and working knowledge of general development processes. Experience managing people is also required.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability - Exceptional computer skills are required, including formal training or equivalent experience working with relational databases and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are also required.
- Knowledge of Datatel products and of the Baltimore philanthropic community is strongly preferred.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are essential to the position.
- Ability to be a self-starter and act independently, yet function as a member of a team, will be a necessary asset.
- Knowledge of on-line prospect research tools, the gift entry and letter generation process.
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks assigned within the team, including meeting deadlines

Physical Requirements Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting standing, walking; talking; hearing; keyboarding and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity to review lists of data in both print and electronic form. Frequent typing using the keyboard.
Essential Functions - Conduct research, and produce detailed prospect profiles, to identify potential individual, corporate and foundation donors with an interest and capacity to support and further the mission of Stevenson University.
- Lead prospect meetings and present a robust slate of new prospects to the fundraisers every six weeks.
- Direct the administration of the fundraising database (Datatel): ensure proper training of all University Advancement staff ensure that departmental and University reporting needs are being met accurately and on-time, ensure overall database integrity.
- Analyze and track data to support the informational needs of the annual fund, alumni events, planned giving as well as major and campaign gifts.
- Direct gift processing and acknowledgement processes for the Office of University Advancement [OUA]. Serve as primary liaison between OUA and the Business Office. Responsible for the accuracy and transmission of all gift revenue. Ensure timely acknowledgement of gifts.
- Responsible for the hiring and evaluation of a full-time Associate Director of Advancement Services and Prospect Research, a full-time Development Associate, and part-time student interns. Provide the proper training, mentoring and support; identify opportunities for growth and professional development.
- Serve as primary liaison between OUA and Information Technology. Represents OUA on appropriate University-wide information services committees to enhance and better coordinate departmental information sharing.
- Exercise independent judgment to determine how best to utilize the Datatel database to provide accurate information for the formation and execution of University Advancement strategies. Recommend and produce analyses of trends in pledge and gift data, and financial accounting.
