PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for the training of all drivers and attendants in methods necessary for the safe transportation of students and staff. Investigate accidents involving district vehicles. Supervise and coordinate bus evacuation drills as required by law.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification/Experience: - High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have Valid Texas Driver's CDL License with P and S endorsements.
- Minimum of 3 years transportation experience or related field.
- Ability to deliver school bus driver training to adults using a variety of designed teaching methods
- Ability to teach behind-the-wheel training to prospective drivers using designed teaching methods.
- Ability to read and implement documents including policies and procedures manuals.
- Ability to receive and give written/verbal instructions in a professional manner.
- Demonstrate effective and professional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to serve as a role model at all times.
Special Knowledge and skills: - Working knowledge of Bus Video equipment.
- General knowledge of computer techniques and procedures.
- Maintain working knowledge of District and Department Policies and Procedures.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: - Train new drivers and assist in obtaining CDL License with P and S endorsements.
- Assist Supervisor in providing in-service training on driver safety and accident prevention.
- Train drivers and attendants in proper use of SPED bus specs: wheelchair lifts and tie down straps, safety vests and car seats.
- Provide CPR training for department employees.
- Investigate and process all District Fleet Accidents and report to Supervisor and Risk Management.
- Assist Police Department with investigations of accidents involving district vehicles.
- Assist Supervisor with safety procedure training for district personnel that drive district vehicles.
- Assist and evaluate drivers/attendants with bus evacuation drills.
- Assist Supervisor in developing and implementing student bus safety programs for the district.
- Conduct charter bus inspections when needed.
- Provide suburban driver training and check-outs for District teachers and other staff.
- Assist Transportation Manager in supervision of Bus Video Program.
- Provide video recording and duplication for archival and evidentiary purposes.
- Assist the Safety Supervisor in investigating driving complaints on Department Employees.
- Drive or attend on a school bus as needed.
- All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
EQUIPMENT USED: - Calculator, computer, buses, trucks, vans, copy machine, fax machine, distance measuring instruments, Video equipment and cameras, and radar gun.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: - Maintain emotional control under moderate and heavy stress. Frequent multitasking is required. Frequent stooping and bending required. Walking, sitting and standing for extended periods of time may be required. May be assigned varied work hours depending on the needs of the department. Occasional lifting or moving items 30 pounds and under; unless restricted. Occasional to frequent operations of a motor vehicle is required. Working inside or outside in all weather conditions at all times of the day or night may be required.
ENVIRONMENT: - Work with office staff, students, parents, schools, and community. Use assigned office equipment and other support equipment.
